This Year's Black - Sexy Men - +Giveaway

It’s a pleasure to be participating in author Avery Flynn virtual book tour for her recent release, THIS YEAR’S BLACK.

As part of the tour Avery is talking about what makes hot heroes and I’m sharing my thoughts on her delightful new book. In addition, Avery has an awesome giveaway she’s hosting on the tour. Be sure to check out the details at the end of the post.

Here’s a brief blurb about THIS YEAR’S BLACK:

A fighter since birth, Allegra “Ryder” Falcon would rather trade in her all-black wardrobe for head-to-toe hot pink than let anyone ever see the cracks in her tough exterior. But one night with a stranger changes everything.
Devin Harris may have given up his MMA fighting dreams for high fashion, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t always in control. So when someone embezzles millions under his watch, he isn’t going to let the private investigator working the case go it alone—even if she is the woman who blew him away in bed and then blew him off.
Just when it seems like it couldn’t get any hotter between Ryder and Devin, the case takes them to a tropical paradise where the danger increases. From the catwalk to the pineapple fields, they have to work together to track down the missing millions before the thief finds—and kills—them.

THIS YEAR’S BLACK is available at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Kobo, and iTunes.

Please join me in welcoming Avery as she talks about ‘What Makes a Hot Hero?’

I love sexy men. There. I said it. You’re totally shocked, right? :)

When I start to create one of my heroes there are certain things they need to have, which add up to one hot, sexy dude. Here they are.

1. Brains. Yes, this is number one. Smarts are always a guy’s sexiest attribute.

2. Curb Appeal. Whether it’s an MMA fighter’s body like Devin Harris in This Year’s Black or a swimmer’s lean physique like Gabe Campos in Betting the Billionaire, the heroines can’t help but taking a good, long look—or twelve.

3. Confidence. He may not always make the right decision, but hot damn he believes in what he’s doing. I love that.

4. Swagger. You know how some heroes just put out the whole I-will-rock-you-world vibe? That just gives me the shivers. Ryder didn’t have a prayer of ignoring Devin in This Year’s Black after one night in his bed. Swagger can only be earned.

5. Humor. Saints preserve us from dull, humorless heroes. Keep your dark angst, I want a hero who can be funny. It can be dry, it can be silly, it can be slapstick, but every hero needs to have a sense of humor.

How about you? What is on your hero must have list? Share your thoughts in the comments and don’t forget to enter to win the This Year’s Black $500 Escape giveaway!

Thanks for joining us, Avery. I like your list. You’ve covered the attributes a sexy hero should have very well.

Now here’s a bit of background on Avery.

Avery Flynn has three slightly-wild children, loves a hockey-addicted husband and
Author Avery Flynn
is desperately hoping someone invents the coffee IV drip.

She fell in love with romance while reading Johanna Lindsey’s Mallory books. It wasn’t long before Avery had read through all the romance offerings at her local library. Needing a romance fix, she turned to Harlequin’s four books a month home delivery service to ease the withdrawal symptoms. That worked for a short time, but it wasn’t long before the local book stores’ staffs knew her by name.
Avery was a reader before she was a writer and hopes to always be both. She loves to write about smartass alpha heroes who are as good with a quip as they are with their *ahem* other God-given talents. Her heroines are feisty, fierce and fantastic. Brainy and brave, these ladies know how to stand on their own two feet and knock the bad guys off theirs.

Here are my thoughts.

THIS YEAR’S BLACK by Avery Flynn

Ryder Falcon isn’t your typical protagonist in many ways, yet she’s a perfect fit for author Avery Flynn’s THIS YEAR’S BLACK.

Ryder is strong and independent, but has a vulnerable side she tries hard to hide. She’s been in an abusive relationship so now she’s afraid to trust and love again.

Ryder, who has a forensic accounting degree, works for her brother’s security company, Maltese Security, doing mostly low level jobs. When she’s assigned an embezzlement case for Dylan’s Department Store, she determined to show her family she’s got what it takes.

However, Ryder runs into a bit of a problem when the store owner wants her to work with his second-in-command, Devin Harris. Devin is the one-night stand Ryder has refused to return calls from and has been avoiding.

Working together, Ryder and Devin will have to fight their feelings for one another while trying to catch the embezzler. Things turn deadly, as well as heat up, as their investigation takes them to a tropical island.

The author has created likable characters with faults and issues readers can relate to. She reverses things having the man rebuffed and the woman with commitment issues. The characters’ interaction is engaging and draws the reader in.

THIS YEAR’S BLACK is a fast-pace story filled with suspense and steamy romance. The action grabs the reader and holds on until the end.

This is the second installment in the Killer Style series, but can be read on its own. This is a tantalizing read that will hold you mesmerized with a spirited heroine and a sexy hero.

  1. I love the cover and it looks like a steamy read.

    1. Isn't a gorgeous cover? I love Entangled's covers. :) As for a steamy read .... totally guilty

  2. I was feeling pretty good about myself until I hit the swagger part. Think my sex appeal bottomed out at that point...

    1. I don't know, Alex. Sometimes the hidden swagger is even better. :)

  3. Avery, thanks again for joining. Your profile for a sexy hero hits the spot. Wishing you much success.

    Hi all.

  4. My hero has to be willing to stand up for what is right, morally, ethically, and legally. In our overly PC world, so few are willing to do that.

And he has to have a sexy smile that lights up his eyes.

  5. What? The post title is misguiding, I thought you was giving away sexy men :)

    1. I like how you think. That would be a hell of an awesome blog post!

  6. Mason - Thanks for hosting Avery.

Avery - You have a well-taken point about crafting attractive characters. It's most effective I think if the reader can believe that someone would find a particular character attractive. Otherwise the chemistry isn't credible. I wish you success.

  7. The book cover is reminiscent of an old painting, early impressionist. I can't remember the artist but I it was a dancer in a red dress. Very romantic.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on today's post. Thanks for dropping by.
